Honey Queens Galore in 2004!

Your Iowa Honey Queen Program is proud to announce that five, yes FIVE local honey queens have officially been crowned throughout the state. These young women are ambitious, hard working, and eager to learn about our industry. The Iowa Honey Queen Program wishes to congratulate these ladies and encourages beekeepers in their areas to look for opportunities to work with them throughout the fall season.

Chelsea Soder, Northwest Iowa Honey Queen
Laura Westercamp, East Central Iowa Honey Queen
Leisl Burgher, Southeast Iowa Honey Queen
Sarah Smith, South Central Iowa Honey Queen
Teresa Jurchen, Southwest Iowa Honey Queen

Several of these young women will be competing for the title of Iowa Honey Queen in November. Look for more information about your 2004 contestants in the October Buzz.

It’s Auction Time!!!

November and the annual meeting is fast approaching (November 12-13), and we hope you are planning on attending. The Iowa Honey Queen program will once again be sponsoring several auctions throughout the weekend. These auctions are a perfect way to expand your collection of “bee stuff”, and also share a few of the unique things you’ve found this past year with others. Both large and small items will be needed to make this year’s auctions complete. Past auctions have included wax sculptures, clothing, collectables, stationary, beauty/personal care, and more. We hope you will bring a few things along to donate, and also take a few things home with you. All proceeds from the auctions will go to the Honey Queen Program to aid in such expenses as mileage reimbursement to the Iowa Honey Queen as she travels the state working for the IHPA, and sending our Iowa Honey Queen to the American Honey Queen competition! This year’s auction itinerary is as follows:

Friday (during the day) – Silent Auction
Friday Evening (at the banquet) – Live Auction
Saturday (during the day) – Silent Auction

Please bring donations to the registration area Friday morning. Live auction items will be available for viewing all day on Friday. If you are not able to attend convention, but would like to donate to this year’s auction, you can mail your item(s) to either of the Queen Committee members listed below. Please call and let us know your donation is on its way. Hope to see you in November!
