The Passing of Lloyd H. Stanley

On Friday July 30, Lloyd Stanley, 88, of Gilbert
passed away at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. He was born on
Feb. 19, 1916 near Lamoni in Decatur County. In 1938 after discharge
from the Navy, he joined his father and brother in the family
beekeeping business in Gilbert, Stanley Brothers Apiary. The Stanley
Brothers kept the 100 year family tradition as a business/hobby
until 1996. Lloyd also worked at Iowa State University and was
mayor of Gilbert from 1966-73.

Lloyd Stanley, a long time beekeeper and lifetime
member of Iowa Honey Producers entered into rest this summer of
2004. We offer our condolences to his family and especially to
his brother Glenn. Lloyd had served the Iowa Honey Producers for
many years in the past as a director and on the nominating committee
and in various other positions. We also want to wish Glenn a speedy
recovery from his recent hip replacement surgery. It was nice
to see him at the Iowa State Fair although he was having to use
a walker due to the surgery.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!
Thanks to all that helped at the Iowa State Fair
in the Sales booth. We set a record for sales, but don’t
have all the figures in for the final figure. We could not do
this fund raiser without the help of all of you. We really appreciate
the sacrifices that you do to work in the IHPA booth. At least
this year it wasn’t as warm. The fans are great, but they
just don’t always do the trick. Thanks to all the special
people, you know who you are, for the fantastic job this year.

Success at the Iowa State Fair
The sales at the Iowa Honey Producers booth at the
Iowa State Fair grossed just over $40,000 dollars this year. The
booth manager Donna Brahms and all of the volunteers that worked
at the booth this year are to be congratulated for such a excellent
year of sales. I think a card of appreciation to Donna would be
nice. If you know of anyone that helped at the booth be sure to
thank them also. Considering how cool the 11 days of the fair
was I think this is wonderful. Congratulations Donna and all the
volunteers and also to all of the vendors.
