Featured Beekeeper of the Month

This month our featured beekeeper is Craig Greene. He and his wife Sherry live at Knoxville, Iowa. Their business name is Wee Bee Apiary.

Bee removal in progress. The bees, inside a storage shed north of Osceola, IA, had constructed a nice set of combs.

Craig is a newcomer to beekeeping having just started about 5 years ago. He says the bee community intrigued me. He has 20 hives, sells honey and offers a bee removal service. He likes saving bees from a removal and turning the colony into a producing colony. In the future he plans to learn queen rearing, and sell queens.

Craig is a member of the Iowa Honey Producers Association and the Back to Basics beekeeping group of about 20-30 people. Back to basics meets the 3rd Friday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

It appears the bees inside this barn west of Knoxville, IA had been quite busy building a wall of combs.

The group promotes honey in the community by means of education and honey sales. They also have a beekeeping display at the county fair and assist new beekeepers.

Thanks for your story Craig and good luck with your bee removal.
