A Magnificent Swarm Hanging Out in a Sunny Orange Grove of Mesa, Arizona.
Pictures submitted by Ruth Arp
If you ever wondered how big a swarm of honeybees could get if they didn’t have to survive an Iowa winter, then these wonderful pictures submitted by Ruth Arp will give you a good idea.
Ruth’s son, Dennis Arp, is a beekeeper just south of Flagstaff, Arizona. He runs Mountain Top Honey Company. His yearly process involves pollinating almonds and oranges before moving the bees to the desert just outside of Phoenix.
Below are pictures of a magnificent swarm that was found in a Mesa, AZ orange grove.
Thanks to Ruth and Dennis Arp for these great pictures!
Dennis saw the swarm last year, but it has grown since then.
A beautiful piece of “art”.

Dennis Arp constructed a sturdy box for transporting the swarm. Dennis plans to build a glass enclosure to display the magnificent combs once the bees have robbed out the honey.
