Central Iowa Beekeepers Annual Auction

The Central Iowa Beekeepers Annual Auction will be held at Harry Hunter's place: 2781 SE 70th St Pleasant Hill on April 23, 2005. Auction will start at 10:00 am. Lunch and snacks will be available. Directions to Harry's and a more complete listing will appear in the April issue.

Following is what has been consigned so far.
Currently consigned are: a number of bundles of cleaned frames, Illinois supers with drawn comb, Illinois supers with foundation, Illinois supers empty and some still in boxes, deep hive bodies, bee suit, hat and veil, honey bears, a 4 frame galvanized extractor, 50 gal tank, sump tank with baffles, bottom boards, inner covers, comb honey boxes, and foundation.

CIBA members consigning items for sale at the auction will pay a 10% sales commission if they consign before March 19. Non-CIBA members and members consigning after March 19 will pay a 15% commission.

Most important rule is that all drawn wax MUST BE INSPECTED BEFORE it can be unloaded at the auction site, so call IDALS and ask to get your stuff inspected before you bring it to Harry's place.

Also be advised---there will be several hives of bees at the sale site, so you can expect to see them---especially in any 'wet' supers that are brought.

Applicants Needed for Master Beekeepers Scholarships

So far there has only been one application for the scholarships to the Master Beekeepers Course. These scholarships offer a great opportunity for beekeepers to increase their level of knowledge. The course is being offered from June 23rd -25th at the University of Nebraska Research Station at Mead, Nebraska. I have received a flier about the course but have no detailed curriculum as yet. Given the poor response, we are going to move the deadline for applying back to May 1st. The amount of the scholarship is $150. This covers the cost of the course, which is $95, and leaves you some money to cover part of the travel and lodging. Some of the meals are included in course. If you are real tight, and want to sleep in your sleeping bag somewhere, you could actually make money on this trip, in addition to having a good time. Marion Ellis runs the course but has other speakers come in to help him. It is a great opportunity!!!!! Simply submit your name and address with a little information about yourself to Phil Ebert, 14808 S 102nd Ave E, Lynnville, IA 50153.
