IOWA STATE FAIR APIARY
ENTRIES
It is a little early to be thinking about the
Iowa Sate Fair in August but there are some changes that have
been made for entering exhibits and into of the classes this year.
A change has been made in the entry due date.
Early entries are due with a postmark of July 12th and will have
entry packets mailed to the exhibitor. Late entries are due with
a postmark of August 1st and entry packets will have to be picked
up at the Entry Department on or after August 5th. No
entries will be accepted after August 1st.
Judging will begin on Wednesday, August 10th,
at noon. Entries not in place at noon will not be judged.
Entries will be accepted from 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. on Tuesday,
August 9th, and after 8:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 10th.
Two classes have been changed. Class 15 -Photograph,
Specific Subject- now reads “subject must be a honey bee
on a flower”. Because of the change, Class 14 –Photograph,
General Beekeeping- now reads ”subject of photo must be
honeybees, honey or beekeeping and may depict harvesting, processing,
marketing or packaging bee hive products”.
Please read the rules for entries when you receive
them. I hope to see you and your entries at the Iowa State Fair
which starts August 11th and goes through August 21st, 2005.

Bid Entries for the Iowa
State Fair IHPA Sales Booth
Please take note that the bids for products to
be sold at the 2005 IHPA honey booth are due on June 30, 2005.
The bid sheet is included on page 6. There is also a copy on the
website www.abuzzaboutbees.com The due date for bids is near,
so fill out your bid sheet today.
The Iowa State Fair brings thousands of people
through the Agricultural building and our very own IHPA honey
booth. It is a great opportunity to promote the important role
of honeybees and the wonderful products they make. Of course to
do this IHPA needs people to help run the sales booth during the
fair. If you or someone you know would like to help, use the sheet
on page 7 to indicate when you could help with this great event.

To Any Beekeepers in Hamilton County or
Neighboring Counties:
I was contacted by an individual in Hamilton
County looking for bees to place on his land. He and his neighbors
have a few fruit trees and gardens and 40 acres of surrounding
timberland. It appears that the last beekeeper to use this site
was Joe Sueper, who past away several years ago. The individual
would like to get bees established back on his land for the benefit
of pollination. To all interested parties you can contact the
individual at:
Marlin and Cheri Hill
2979 270th St.
Ellsworth, IA 50075
515-836-4616
Or you can contact me at sjhanlin@iastate.edu
or 515-294-1936 and I will forward you the information which I
have received.
