Iowa’s Honey Queen
is One Busy Bee!

Spring Greetings to all Iowa beekeepers,
Spring has finally arrived and I hope that many of you have been out to your hives to find many healthy bees. My hive survived through the winter and with many thanks to Matt Stewart they have even been treated for mites.

“Busy as a Bee” was the headline in an article that the Gazette did on me. They were looking for an active area senior and once they heard I was the Honey Queen they wanted to know just what that entailed. I enjoyed sharing information with the reporter and there was even a photo from a Southeast Iowa Field Day.

Recently I have been to the Hy Vee in Iowa City with Matt and Patty Stewart, we gave samples and handed out recipe booklets. Another event was Agricultural Days at the Mount Vernon Hills Bank. I had the opportunity to speak with many interesting people who had some great questions. I wasn’t able to answer them all but Bob Wolff and Mr. Spina were on hand to help me. While there I got the chance to meet the 2004 Linn County Pork Queen.

One last exciting weekend was spent in Amana at the annual Maifest Celebration. My family decorated our truck and my cousins dressed up as bees. I had a friend dress up like a beekeeper clad in white with a veil and smoker. Matt Stewart followed with his Noble Bee van and a very cute classic VW Bug. I am very excited for summer to come and ready for the many honey activities to begin.

Sweet Regards,
Maria Zuber
